She looked around the table and was sure she had done what was necessary to convince them to add her to the team. Time would tell. She rose and all of them rose with her. She wasn’t sure if it was because she was an officer or because she was a woman. Either way, it warmed her heart at the strong character of this team. She was duly impressed.

“I’ll get the bill and wait for you outside, Tex,” she said. This would give them a moment to talk if they needed that time.

They immediately tried to protest, but she held up her hand. “I got loads of entertainment today and some very good tips. The least I can do is pick up the tab. Don’t make me issue an order.”

Several of them chuckled, including Bondo. But Tex was watching her intently, his gaze dark and serious. She wanted to retreat from the memory of that time in her life. It had left her emotionally dismembered and physically drained, but it mattered to her what Tex thought.

She didn’t want to think about all the excuses they could make for her not to go. She knew it was imperative and finding another pilot was going to take some time.

The man was so damned attractive, and unexpected longing clogged her chest. The way he was dressed couldn’t hide the warrior he was, a man who didn’t just demand attention, but one who led others by his will, integrity, and intelligence. He was all man, broadcasting his power and sexual potency without ego in a natural order that only magnified his physical strength.

Alpha.

Leader of the pack.

So tempted and aroused, she turned away, trying to maintain her control. She stopped the waiter and settled the bill. With one last look at the table of men now intently engaged in conversation, likely discussing her, she started for the door. Tex’s profile made her tremble. He unnerved her in so many ways. The thought of getting close to him was overwhelming, the implications of what that would mean not only in terms of her professional life, but in terms of her personal life. Just the thought of getting to know him better both mentally and physically almost overwhelmed her. She would change, deep inside. That kind of a man was a catalyst. No doubt about it. He could teach her things…intimate, pleasurable things, she was sure. Things that made her heart pound, her temperature rise.

Breathing hard, she escaped to the outside and pressed her hand against the doorframe. The now cool air wafted against her bare skin, making her shiver. Feeling both hot and cold, she took a few steps out onto the pavement, the heat from the sun lingering in the black asphalt, rising through the soles of her feet.

She was repressed sexually, but she sensed that he could and would be what she needed to explore everything that was trapped inside her, her inner vixen.

God help her. She wanted him.
